Large bowel resection, or colectomy, is done to remove damaged or diseased portions of the large intestine. There are a number of reasons why a colectomy may be necessary: Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer, precancerous polyps, diverticulitis, infection, bowel obstruction, endometriosis, bleeding, volvulus, or intussusception.

2008年3月25日 · If nothing is done, in the event that there is an impaction or obstruction, it is usually necessary to be hospitalized for treatment. Sometimes the treatment just involves lots of fluids and watching to see if the obstruction resolves; sometimes an enema can help; or it could be necessary to do a colectomy (removal of a portion of the bowel).

2008年11月11日 · Sometimes a 'colectomy' can be done where the bowel is reconnected and no bag is needed. It is probably quite unlikely you'de need either, but your surgeon really needs to go over everything in detail. Is this a GYN doing the surgery, or a gastro-surg?
