When there's hardly any snow there's only a couple places to go. Buttermilk the main area and the West end is good. Or you can go up to snowmass and ski sneakies top of Big burn that's good too Bando1234的完整评论

Best snow of the four mountains and zero waits. Tried all the mountains and kept returning to Buttermilk. More sun to get on the mountain so the snow was best at Buttermilk over Highlands and Aspen… Marla_n_co的完整评论

Each year we start the season at Buttermilk to get our ski legs back. The staff is super friendly and eager to help if needed. We look forward to returning next season! chaneh2023的完整评论
Will be visitng Aspen in December but we will not be staying at the mountain resorts. Is there a fee to enter the resorts/mountains for sightseeing even if we do not plan on skiing? We may want to do some hiking there if possible, but I cant seem to find anywhere that says if there is a fee to enter the resorts/mountains. Please advise. Thank you

Hello, There is no fee to hike up Buttermilk along designated uphill routes. You can find information about the uphill routes at the base the mountain on the large board maps. Many people enjoy hiking up the Tiehack side of Buttermilk which takes around 45min. In most years the Tiehack side of the mountain opens around the end of December once there is adequate snowpack. Snowmass also allows uphill hiking. I would recommend going up the Elk Camp side of the mountain along the designated route. There is no daytime hiking allowed on Aspen Mountain and Aspen Highlands. Keep in mind that uphilling on our mountains (hiking or AT) is subject to snow conditions. You can find more information at our website when you search "uphilling". If you wish to sightsee, we offer a gondola foot pass for $36 per adult on both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass. The views from the top of Aspen Mountain are well worth it. If you wish to remain at the base of the mountain, there are restaurants and shops to enjoy.
Is there a base lodge at Aspen/Ajax, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands or Snowmass? I found a 2008 posting that said lockers are available and some people stash hiking boots at ticket lobbies, but my non-skiing spouse is looking for a place to hang out, read or whatever. We are staying at Snowmass.

Yes! They all have places to hang. The nicest is aspen/Ajax, followed by snowmass, then highlands and lastly buttermilk. I listed them in order of places within walking distance of things to do and see. Also she can take a lift up to one of the restaurants on the mountain and meet you for lunch and then take a lift back down
